Willie Clark - Rochedale, Queensland, Australia Convention - 1967

All the sacrifice and service God has rendered to us when we have done what is our duty and still say we are unprofitable servants. Very little we can do after all. Revelations 1:10, “I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day and heard behind me a great voice as of a trumpet.” A voice behind him and looked and saw then told to write the message. Go to the meeting with the desire to hear God’s voice and say live and act that we may hear His voice. Nice to know the touch of God on our lives. Help came to those who knew the touch of Jesus. How the Lord has called us to be kings and priests. If we are not kings, if we are not overcoming in getting victory, how can He and try something to us to give to others? Great victory must come in our own lives; victory over evil thinking and speaking. Kings in the sense and have the spirit and blessing of Christ to be a priest to minister to others. Serve and decrease and serve in the interest of His kingdom.

Revelations 2 and 3, what the Lord saw and John first saw a picture of the Son of God. Before the Lord has a personal message for us, He wants us to see the Lord in His glory. 2:1, “Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write, 'These things saith He that holdeth the seven stars in His right hand and walk earth in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks.'” One in the midst, the Son of God. It goes to show that the message John had was something that the Son saw; there are ups and downs, differences and also their driftings, wandering away. Failing to have a clear vision of what God expects. The reason for this message because of something that had taken place since a mission. Paul wrote to them about 10 years after the mission and now this is 42 years after the mission. When Paul wrote, we see no doubt things were going alright and he spoke of their love to one another. The Lord says,  "Now I know thy works."

Thou God seest me.” 2:2-3. Wonderful marks, all that should be in a child of God and interest in the kingdom that cause them to labour. “Nevertheless” you can understand in all those years there wasn’t that steadfastness that should have been. “I have somewhat against thee.” There had been a drifting away and now love was lacking and they are still carrying on, continued in a formal way. Love wasn’t there empowering and constraining them. We could be doing the same as in the beginning, but without love permeating our being.

Verse 5, "Remember from whence thou art fallen for you could say think of the heights that thou hast fallen from." Outward form but no inward life there compelling them to put their whole heart and soul into serving God. God didn’t let them drift away, but gave them something to encourage them; wanted them to do the first work and be restored again. So necessary to be an example myself; could it be so that I am just giving up for more service. Verse 7, give attention to what we hear. To him that overcometh or is prepared to do the things that is lacking. 3:1, they had a name. “That thou livest and art dead.” Were not true to the name. Show that we have life and live up to what we see in the Son; give evidence we have life.

Isaiah 43:1, “But now thus saith the Lord that created thee, O Jacob and He that formed thee, O Israel fear not; for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by name; thou art Mine.” I have called thee by name, thou art Mine. Art Mine, now called by His name. Honour Him and be true to His name. Alex the great, the Emperor of the Grecian Empire. A man bought up to him for cowardice. The penalty was death and he was asked to come and see the Emperor and he asked him his name and the man replied, "Alex." The Emperor said, "You have got my name but not my nature." Either change your name or change your nature. Go and do what is right and you will be accepted. You are not just taken up with the leaves on a tree that give evidence what kind of tree it is, but you look for fruit. We could be a tree with no fruit. John 15, "Herein is My Father glorified that ye bear much fruit." That is evidence we are alive.

Revelations 3:4, “Thou have a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments, and they shall walk with me in white all they are worthy.” Contaminated with the old world. Cannot yield to the flesh and the world and produce fruit for God. 3:16, “So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew thee out of My mouth.” Lukewarm and what they were saying, suggested to me they were now self-righteous. So satisfied with what they had attained to, a wonderful knowledge of the Bible.

Verse 17, “Because thou sayest I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing, and knowest not that thou art wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked.”  I do not think it was worldly riches. They didn’t have humility, meekness and child likeness that enabled them to be led and taught. And it also tells what they were in God’s sight. Matthew 5, "Blessed are the poor in spirit." That causes us to seek the face of God and to get to know His mind and will. Would like to think that need is it dead in us. The message was for them to get victory in their lives and to anoint their eyes.

John 12, a feast. Wonderful little gathering and coming events casting their shadow no doubt; something that was showing that something was going to take place. Lazarus now sitting at the table with Jesus. Do you see him at the table with the grave cloths on? They are taken away before people come into fellowship. Evidence of life and the grave cloths going. We don’t preach for people to get rid of the grave cloths. A thought passed on by someone and that was Mary sat at Jesus feet for her sake. Fell at His feet for Lazarus’s sake and she broke the alabaster box and anointed his feet for His sake. The ointment would be on His garment when He went to the high priest, when on the cross and when in the tomb. Would have a wonderful influence on Jesus as He faced death. Odour filled the house and extends to us today. Wonderful effect on others. Jesus said, "With you, I desired to eat the Passover with you." Then He had five trials. The distance He had to go; would be a tired man. Had a purposed heart as He went through it all. Amen.
